As we went 'silver' not too bad as a once in a lifetime trip, 'gold' was almost twice the price, we budgeted £10,000 each for the whole trip, flights premium economy, car hire and dinners. One retired Dr and his wife with our group went full gold and business flights, cost them double what we paid!

I'd like to do it some time in my life. Every time I priced out a train ticket it's been like 3-5x the cost of a plane ticket.

With the growing cost of flights, and personal carbon budget the WEF are pushing, along with laws forcing people onto boats and trains where those routes exist in parallel to flights, that might change.
