    My story !

I have always been interested in tools because of my grandfather! I watched him shape wood bend steel hammer and twist things into thing that worked or decorated something ! He taught me first about what a tool needs! To function properly and to know when it's not! He passed away about 10 years ago and inherited treasure chest of tools he used and made some of these tool are about a 100 years old they still work! Now when I start a project a make it a point to use one of those tools ! Now days I shop garage sales, pawn shops and scrap yards for old tools of just about any kind and machinery too! Once I restore them I use them for awhile clean them up and either keep them or sell them on eBay. It is an amazing feeling that comes over me when the buyer says "I remember my dad or grandfather using a tool like this" ! So I get a big kick out of the talent out there and the craftsmanship I see in the home made tools, a tool should never die ! Fix it pass it on or hang it on a wall and pass on the story behind what the tool was used for on on what project! Btw I am a huge fan of getting more women interested in tools!

    Hi Crankey1 - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

    Sounds like you're a multi-generational tool guy.

What kind of tools are you considering building?

    Hi Crankey1,

    Welcome!

I definitely appreciate (and share!) your philosophy that a tool should never die; I'm sure you'll find that most around here would agree. I feel the same way about most antiques, especially anything mechanical.

If you're thinking of building a bandsaw mill, you'll enjoy perusing the videos in our recent Bandsaw Mills post.

Let's see some pics of your progress - lots of us would enjoy watching over your shoulder…

Hello Crankey1, must be nice to be working with an old tool you know belonged to your grandfather. I don't have tools that old, just ones that I started with when I was still a teenager. But using them, you remember the stuff you used to work on with them. I look forward to seeing that engine lathe restored, and of course your bandsaw mill when you get to build it.
