Having worked 28 years in the transport industry I have started to appreciate the skill of artisans of wood and metal in days gone by.
Currently between jobs, I have had some time to explore techniques in wood cutting, planing, assembly and surface finishes to show off the beauty of the timber.
I have some tools handed down to me by my father that I had been using without much regard to their history. They were just tools. Included were a hand plane, some timber handled chisels, timber handled clamps and timber handled screwdrivers. I have now cleaned them up, oiled and put them aside for display. I have some information on them from my eldest brother who thinks they may be our grandfather's from the period 1915-1925.
Not particularly old (yet).
