What am I missing are there no stairs tot eh 2nd floor of those buildings or are they just too lazy to carry things down them.

Dumb South Africans at their best. Very likely poor access or even more likely , security gates etc to deal with, as that looks like slum type tenacy so common in poorer commercial areas in RSA. Sounds like the western Cape by the accent! Hella funny though!
