Might not look rigid, but surface finish says rigid enough. Spindle, column, quill, collet; says lots about that rotary table too.
Other factor; a machinist's ability to run & feed in accord with observation of process cannot be taught, past being aware it exists. Takes minimally 2 senses to make it happen, acquired over time.

My Dad used to encourage me to listen to how the machine is sounding. I taught most of my helpers and employees that lasted in my shop the same skills. This is the happy machine sound, this is the not happy machine sounds.

Being machine tool vocabulary of ailments isn't a fraction that of vehicles (while both emit happy/ not happy), dug up this.

It's clear, we are much better imitating the not happy.
Favorite is moderate elevation from Tic-tic-tic at $120, to Klak-klak-klak at $130; and serious upcharge for Klak-a-klak-a-klak, $200.00.

I thought that this might be useful for our young friend if he is making his milling machine column.

Very nice! Sand filled or concrete filled?

I think that this will be a great column for your mill.

It's sand filled. I think compacted sand will be better for damping than concrete which can shrink. Sand always self adjust to walls of column.
