This is a precision low profile Milling and CNC vise. It is 2.37 inches high and has a capacity
of 4 inches wide and 5 inches long. It is a lock down vise and can be operated with a single
3/16 inch allen wrench. Lead screw is a standard 1/2"-13 tpi screw with the end modified
to fit the moveable jaw assembly. While it does require milling for the large base I will also
have a set of plans for one that has the base made from bar stock without milling.
My Kurt style lock down vise is over 3.6" tall so I gain 1.2" of head room with this model.
It will fit equally on my CNC machine, Sherline Mill, or Mini Mill. It also gains 1" in length
capacity over my Kurt Style vise.
Operation does require use of one allen wrench to both pull the jaws tight and lock
them down to the base. Once setup for a dimension it can be reset and adjusted for
parts that are within 1.5" wide with only three allen adjustments since the lead screw
provides 1.5" of travel. Any size part that can fit between the jaws can be adjusted
using 5 of the 1/4" allen cap screws on the jaws and lead screw. It is not as bad as it
sounds, we are talking about 1/8 th of a turn on the lock down screws and maybe 1/4
turn of the lead screw to secure any part. The lead screw does have a knurled knob
for fast adjustments.
Version 2 is a bar stock version for the base that does not require milling.
There is also the optional custom work stop shown in another post in this thread.
