Mil V-12 transport helicopter is the largest helicopter ever built. The V-12 is powered by four 4,800 kW turboshaft engines and is capable of lifting 40,000 kgs (88,000 lbs). Two prototypes were built, and are now in museums.

When one of our Army Chinook CH-47 helicopters was disabled for mechanical problems in the mountains of Afghanistan, the U.S. Gov't contracted with a "commercial" Russian firm who operated a couple of these monsters to come lift it out and transport it to a secured airport for shuttling back to the U.S. The Cold War was certainly a good time for Engineering on both sides!
