The Gall-Peters Projection have all areas correct with respect to each other, but at the sacrifice of distorting most shapes instead:

Never heard any disputes that Mercator projection is "wrong", just distorts proportions at the poles, being drawn from perspective of an Equator..
In conjunction, never heard 'flat-earthers' state which side exists........
