About metric_taper
Biography:
I'm a retired EE. I worked on avionics in the commercial market.
Back in high school, when they had metal shop, I got the metalworking bug. First lathe is a 10X24 Jet I purchased in 1978.
I have a very old Rockford horizontal miller, that was originally overhead flat belt driven, and someone along the line put a Lima conversion kit on it.
I also have a Wells-Index vertical mill.
And I have this bastard child Grizzly lathe 16x40. 5800 lbs. G3621. Grizzly had a clearance taper attachment, for a 20x80 lathe, that I was able to adapt to this machine. Real effort was to redrill the 2 mounting bolts. And that to is a rework effort as there was no deburring before the heat treated the long sliding way. So it chatters as it is fed.
I have several antique trucks, 1924 Model T with a Ruckstell 2 speed rear axle (in parts), 1951 Ford F150 (in parts), 1957 Chevy 3/4 ton (on blocks), 1956 Chevy flat bed 2 ton (rotting into the ground), 1965 Datsun Fairlady SLP310, (also rotting into the ground).
Location:
Marion, Iowa
Interests:
Besides metal working to repair broken things, full woodworking equipment except a wood lathe.
Occupation:
Retired, but worked as avionics design engineer Collins Radio. HVAC technician worked for Trane Co.
