    Yeah, drop a firecracker into a confined space known to contain flammable vapors! What could possibly go wrong? Another Darwin's list candidate. He didn't get inducted this time, but he just might make it on the next attempt.

    What I am thinking is, since this was obviously a staged event for click bait the guy, probably opened an LP tank down there for a while ither that o r a nat. gas line.
    Generally greases and oils would not produce enough vapors to instantly combust from a a source as small as a fire cracker,
    Never try to tell me it can't be done

    It is just a pit and usually they get full of water and oil spills unless they have a proper sump which needs to be cleaned regularly.I think Frank S has nailed it.

    But, Frank S., why wouldn't a fuse set off LP gas before the "firecracker" went off? I don't think "firecracker" is an apt descriptor of whatever he dropped into the pit.
