I think he may have had the jack under it but not where it was designed to be placed. his jostling the tire caused it to fall.
Notice also what appears to be a combination wrench laying on the ground instead of a lug wrench.

Rhetorically speaking, is this video for real? I'm thinking that all of the weight originally on that corner of the car was there when the tire failed. How in the world did he take enough weight off to remove the wheel using (apparently) just his hands? (Never mind, somehow missed Frank S' answer - thanks.)
