In the yachting world there are regattas which will require a two behind dinghy instead of the inflatable ones for the higher speed races in these regattas unless the rules specifically stipulate the dinghy must be of wooden construction you can find little oarsmen style or sailing dinghies made out of a varied sundry of materials the roto molded ones might weigh as little a 90 to 100 lbs which will include the mast sail and dagger board. the yachtsmen will anchor offshore then board their dinghy and row or sail to shore get their ticket stamped then return to their yacht and sail away to the next check in point somewhere else usually these events are not held on vast open ocean races. but rather smaller waters like protected coves channel ways or lakes. almost always in good fun, usually done to raise monies for charities children's hospitals or to raise money for disaster reliefs.
