Figured you guys may get a kick out of this. The point of this video is to show that you can make a fairly high quality knife with very cheap tools that you can order online or may already have.

Gotta' brag on my son - he decided he wanted to use his time between semesters of Engineering school to make some knives as gifts for friends - so he watched a lot of videos. Like you say, he used 1084, heat treated and tempered; checked hardness at work; around 54C, IIRC.

LOL, thank you sir! Yeah... In the knife making game you have to be willing to bust a lot of knives up! It can be painful for sure.... but you always learn something.
