    My gut tells me that doing anything with brass is super expensive and to avoid it if at all possible. But I remember reading something a while back about production and why you see brass in valves and fittings so much. It's so much easier on tooling and the recovery on chips is high enough that it's almost an economic wash versus steel. That combined with the corrosion and sealing advantages of brass... that's why we see brass valves and fittings.

    Ability of Brass resisting corrosion aids repair efforts too; such as in removing different threaded components, reface seats, polishing stem so packing works.
    Most old valves were red brass from higher copper percentage, and easier yet to repair.
