This Machine is Great for Shredding Branches

You've already seen a few chippers on our channel, but this time we decided to do it a little differently.
The screw mechanism is easier to make and can be done without a lathe.
I used a 35mm drawn steel roller and 5mm plate sheet.
The pipe has an outer diameter of 160 mm and a wall thickness of approximately 5 mm.

In the video you can see that 4 or 5 cm thick branches are not a problem. I think thicker branches would have been chipped as well, but I didn't want to damage the machine, so I didn't try thicker pieces.

The motor has a power of 3 kW / 4 hp, 1400 rpm. The gearbox reduces the rotation by 7 times, so the shaft rotates at 200 rpm.

Funny irony... This video came up in my subscription feed today. I've never seen a wood chipper with a screw mechanism before. Now that I've seen it I don't know why it hasn't been done many times already.

One reason I would be difficult to keep the "screw" blades sharp. Chippers take a lot of abuse. Dirt and grit, etc goes through them, they need a lot of maintenance, I keep 2 sets of blades for mine so I can swap them in the field if I need to!!!

That makes sense, though I’d think that would be mitigated by using a tool steel cutting edge or hard-facing weld rods to form the cutting edges. Maybe using harrowing disks instead of mild steel plate.

There is no need to shade the camera when recording arc welding. The harmful UV light cannot be transmitted through the camera lens.
