Since the grade 8 bolt can be cut with a hacksaw, why use an angle grinder on the lathe? Wouldn't a HSS cutter do a more precise and faster job? Besides, grinding dust on lathe ways is not good.

Do you know of any HSS cutter tools I can use with a woodworking lathe? The cutting with the disk cut at the same rate off the lathe as it did with it, so why is the dust any different?

Sorry, my mistake- I didn’t notice you had chucked up the bolt in a wood turning lathe.

I do suggest you cover your ways with a cloth when grinding.

No problem...I'm just using what I have. When you said "Ways", did spellcheck magically change it from face?

Cover the ways with a cloth. Your tailstock rides on the lathe’s ways. That grinding grit is bad.
