    anyone know what is actually removing the bark? - looks almost like an inside out strimmer, but I can't tell in the video.

    That's a ring debarker. It's just a set of fingers that are dragged across the surface of the log. I don't think I'm going to have much luck linking a Google image search on this forum, but here goes anyway:

    There are a few different styles of debarker. That's probably my least favourite. They're kinda high maintenance and need the logs to be lined up just perfect.
