Philip Davies and I would like to see a site wide contest here for Best Axe Restoration. We both think it would be fun and likely more would too.
I propose the following rules: It must be a full sized axe (single or double bit) and it must be re-handled as part of the restoration. The contest could run for up to 6 months.
Entries are posted in a single post with pics and major specifications listed in a pinned contest thread and the winner is judged according to a points system devised for the categories of: age (new-used-vintage-antique, 1-4), handle (factory made-some carving-handmade, 1-5), handle fitment (poor-perfect, 1-5), esthetics (1-5), potential utility (issues-usable-handy, 1-3), edge grind quality (1-5), overall appearance and workmanship (1-5), and accessories (1-3).
Non entrants can judge - probably three is enough and their identities should be kept confidential to block arguments. Judges' scorings are averaged for each entry and top scorers are deemed co-winners in the case of ties. A scoring list posted at the end of the contest would tell all their ranking.
The winner(s) would receive a unique badge for his profile and all entrants would get a useful axe.
Let's do this.
All readers: Give this thread a Thanks if you would like to participate in this contest so Jon can judge the interest.
