Leonardo da Vinci is credited with this lathe design, from around 1480. He may have been among multiple geographically-separated "inventors" of this continuous drive lathe, or he may have adapted or copied this lathe from existing versions at the time. More reasonably, he legitimately created the first surviving drawing of a lathe of this type.
Stuart King rebuilt it from this da Vinci sketch. In this case, the historical interest of this build makes up for its lack of efficiency.
