    Lathe Tool Shelf

I made a tool shelf for my lathe to get all of the odds and ends out of my chip tray and hopefully make dropped parts easier to find since I can now routinely clear the swarf from the tray because that's all that should normally be there. Makes finding needed items easier because all the usual bits now have a designated place. The shelf is attached to the backstop of my lathe, supported by angle brackets behind and the shelf tilts down about 10º so that things will stay in them despite vibration.

I should have done this long ago.

All it took was half a day to knock this simple shelf out from some T&G paneling I had in the wood pile and the change in routine from working on stuff that wants to cut me was nice. And it really cleaned my lathe area up to boot.

I had enough time left over to look at the motor on my drill press and discovered that I had both ends of the starting winding brought to the outside so I can easily add a reversing switch to it for threading and all I'm waiting for now is for the switch to arrive and it'll be a done deal. It was a good day in which useful things were accomplished.

I'm sure you already know this but future readers might need a reminder. Perhaps you could add a note to your post...

RESIST THE URGE TO ACCESS SUCH A SHELF WHEN THE LATHE IS RUNNING. REACHING ACROSS SPINNING CHUCKS OR WORK IS VERY DANGEROUS.
