    Lathe roller centering tool

    Hi!I
I decided to build a centering tool for lathe, after seeing some project on this forum .
The bearing is a 20x52x12mm unit, used in 50cc 2 stroke engine for Piaggio scooter (long and short arm models), I have also some spares with lateral shield.

The tool shank is a hex bar, I chose this profile because it's easy to be tightened on the lathe. I machined a round part for the bearing and a little step to help removal (if needed). I milled one side in order to keep the tool near the holder.

This type of tool could be useful in order to center a part inside the lathe chuck. Applying a light pressure on the bearing (against the part) it makes the bearing spin , the combination help the part find the center.
Unluckily it's late night and I can't run my lathe for fast video, I put a YouTube video pretty useful to see how it works

I'm glad you like! It's very inexpensive, I built with scraps I had at home

I guess I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. I still don't understand, the original post showed you using a piece of hex and a bearing from a scooter. The bearing is pressed on to the end off the hex bar. In the above video I do not see the hex bar and the bearing is mounted sideways with a bolt. What am I missing here?

Both work in the same way, no matter where the shaft is locked, the outer race of the bearing has to touch the not centered object. The guy in the video made the tool on axis with lathe spindle, my tool is perpendicular. About the bar, I had no square steel scraps available, Hex was pretty good for the purpose, a very strong shaft and easy to machine. Same for the bearing, a good one is ok.
