Since we have morphed into shooting down balloons. This is an interesting article. Balloons are not really that easy to shoot down.

If somebody aimed the laser at you and pulled the trigger it would feel kinda nice. If you're at 10+ miles the beam has diverged so much that it's basically nothing. I think some of the high end military stuff can pull it off though. Popping those balloons really is a difficult problem.
I doubt that even the high-end military stuff could do much more than paint the surface to serve as a guidance, any more than a 408 cheyTac ULRR projectile would even come close to reaching the target height.

When ever those super quick advertising videos run, ie tree lasers and most ridiculous face mask of all time, I immediately discount the material. Secondarily, in abject rejection to where those come from.
    Jingoistic? Maybe.
    Unfair stereotyping? Possibly.
Am I being a jerk, or has this become a conditioned reaction?
    Sincerely,

They missed the bark on the side of the log closest to the charred burn. Those pieces would have been cut first. The unburned side is where I would have expected bark strips.
