actually, not that new. I was using a laser attachment to install field drainage tile in the late 80's. As long as I had the equipment, I used it on my dozers and graders to level building sites too. The equipment was beyond my understanding, but using it was easy, and a huge time saver. Mine had a useful radius of 1000 or so feet, so I could level a 2000 foot pad with the beacon in the center, at up to 2 mph travel speed. Beyond that, the hydraulics couldn't respond quickly enough. It took a 2 man crew to accomplish what 5 or 6 used to and at 3 or 4 times the speed. Now days the equipment is much more durable and affordable.
