I've always said that horse people had more money than they do sense. I caught a wild painted Mustang yearling Stallion on some open range land my Granpa had leased. Tool tall in the withers too large in the hocks but he had large nostrils and straight teeth. I gentled the way of the Comanche, never tried to break him. By the time he was a 3 year old I could ride him at a gallop almost the whole day for miles and miles he never lathered. Could easily clear a 5 strand barb wire fence. He never had anything harsher on his head than a hackamore NO BIT in his mouth.
I sometimes used a small indian saddle but mostly when riding the fence line I only used a blanket on his back, more for his comfort than mine. A guy offered Grand pa too much money for him so he sold him. I later learned that the guy had forced a bridal on him with a Spanish bit and a huge western saddle then tried to ride him. Wound up with several broken ribs and a broken leg so he sold the horse to some rodeo guy for less than half what he paid my Grand pa for him. Who then used him as a saddle Bronk
Horse people are always spending money because they are lazy stupid or greedy. But at least that machine is gentle to the horses

Thats a nice story Frank S, you obviously have a healthy respect for other creatures. I have always had concerns for animals that are used for sport or entertainment, Its really all about money.

Olderdan. I've never been bitten by a dog and only scratched by 1 cat but that was a bob and the mustang made short work of him real quick with his over sized feet.
THe worst thing you can do with most animals is to show fear or aggression those 2 moods telegraph your next actions more than anything else. Truly dangerous animals are best kept at a distance. I'm not some TV thrill seeking Steve Irwin or Jeff Corbin that's why I carry a shot gun a rifle or a 44 at times when Know there might be one of those around. (Thrill seeker or wild animal)
