    knurling tool

    I would like to build a knurling tool for my taig lathe. was wondering if 6061 t6 would be a suitable material for the arms? thanks all

    If it's aluminum as the numbers suggest then no, not suitable. you would have pins that are usually pretty hard and the pressing would dent and loosen over a short amount of time. Suggest O1, D2 or even case hardenable material. I have used mild steel on a knurling tool with good results, pins are hard and haven't detected any destructive wearing. Aluminum would not last.
