    knife guard slot saw

    Hey fellow cave dwellers,
The other day I was chatting to a somewhat experienced knifemaker and he asked the age-old question. How did you cut guard slots? Well I said I used a tile saw to which I got, huh? I then said you make a clamp for your hacksaw to which I got another huh? So I figured I had to make a video to explain... To all the knifies out there, enjoy!

    Best regards Stevoh

    Thanks for the share.
I kept thinking "why is he building a new end to replace the one he just cut off?" It wasn't until you drilled the starter hole for the demo that it dawned on me why. It was just after my ah-ha moment that you added the text "see where this is going?"

Thanks for this... I've used the same saws for slotting but didn't think of the clamp arrangement ( Slaps forehead! ). I tried making the end of the saw smaller, thus weakening it. Did you make the whole clamp or modify an existing hacksaw end fitting?

Haha, another "steved", (surname starts with d like mine I assume) got vision of you slapping Yr forehead. Yep made clamp from some thread off an old bolt then tapped a piece of 1/2" square mild steel. The accompanying video shows detail if you can find a way to watch it (assuming you haven't)
All the best fellow Steve d, cheers mate

Awesome idea ! I have needed something like that a few times. A round file and hours of using that doesnt cut it. A dremel often gets away from me.

Thanks for that, Yeah dremels can be unforgiving if they catch or dig in, scarring your work... or Yr finger, cheers
