By demand of market folk, during the 80's, I made these storage holders for kiddies colouring-in pencils.
This one was a proto type to hold an eraser as well on the under side. They were popular ( with the mums/moms). Some would buy 2 die for 12 pencils while most bought 2 to hold 6 pencils and one eraser. For the small production run, I counter sunk the holes on the 6 dot side of the cube (this improved aesthetics & made it easier for children to return pencils to the dice=very important) before painting the black on all dots and the forstener bit hole for the rubber. The whole item would then be sanded removing any over spill of black paint before finishing with polyurathane/varnish.
The grank kids love them.
