    Hi Kevin,

    Welcome!

You've got quite a nice shop setup there - what are you using it to build at the moment?

You are spot on about HMT.net. This collection of personalities, their creativity and wildly varied resources amaze me too.
I'm definitely not electrically qualified by certificate; but familiar with the important parts of the electrical vocabulary to work safely. Despite years of Naval Service, not traveled much, so interacting with other nations fascinates me. Again, little travel but have been to Mombasa twice and Mauritius.
I designed the layout and system for my shop to run 3ph 60hz 440v to almost every machine. 2 are ex-European 50hz with dedicated VFD's. Right now I'm fabricating wireway hangers, then pull wire and energize after sign-off. There's a little 3ph 240v and 1ph 220v that will step down from mains, covering 2 mills and independent disc/ belt sander. Lighting will be both 277v florescent and 110v lighting for entire floor. Outlets in US are 110v also. The shape of the building allows for add-on structure to be office and nice apartment, but have not concluded exactly what construction method I'll chose. [Or where the $$$ will come from]
If you are open to electrical design conversations, it would prove an asset to broaden my project, knowing that I'd adjust to our electrical codes.
Naturally, I offer 4+ decades metal working expertise, developed both for career and avocation. Yes, it nears an addiction.
There is no satisfaction like converting raw material or re-utilizing unconnected articles into practical objects, while great music plays overhead. My postings are behind lately for that very reason.
    Sincerely,
    Toolmaker51

    Hi Ken,
I am busy redoing my kitchen with recovered wood. Some of the wood was put on my house in around 1950's. This wood was from the fascia board, but when I renovated i took it off neatly to make sure i could use it again. It turns out to be yellow wood which is making a very nice kitchen counters.
Besides that the kids cars "my daughters" always has something to repair, replace and this is where the lathes and mills cone in

    regards
    Kevin

Thank you, I studied old school, which my late father believed you get a degree and a trade behind you and you can do anything. He was most defiantly right and I am glad I listened to him it has made the world of difference in my life. I have applied the same to my kids, but been girls they decided law degrees is for them.

    Regards

    Hi Toolmaker51

I am open to discussion and of course a nice good debate that we can compare and broaden our skills. Knowledge can never be taken away and I love passing on what I know learning what I don't and of course help me when I am wrong.

We use 220V and 380V in country "ZA" but I am also a electronic design engineer which I designed Air Traffic control systems, toll gates, nurse call, radio comms and a few others. I have recently restarted that skill and found some nice already designed PLC units being Arduino and Rasberry Pie. My current project is access control for an Airport and a Hotel, and have recently been requested to do this for schools. It has been quite a challenge since I have not work to component level in more that 15 years.

Well let me sign off before I write a novel lol

    Cheers
    Kevin
