Just saying hello + a question

Hi-
I live in northern California; love to weld sculpture, build and fix things both in metal and in wood.
I' e got a question about something that I have been finding on the street for years. A thin piece of metal about 12" long, 1/8" x ~1/2mm. What is it??

Just a guess but since you're finding it on the street it's probably something automotive.

My guess would be that it's a piece of stiffener from a windshield wiper blade. For obvious reasons those are made of stainless steel. Try testing your finds with a magnet. If they're not or only weakly attracted to the magnet they're probably stainless.

Thanks- it’s definitely not a windshield wiper blade stiffener; not stainless steel either. They don’t have notches, and they’re always about 12 inches long. My first thought was automotive as well, but nothing I can think of.
