Just getting started with woodworking in earnest

I've built things with wood, but they've been rough and functional. Now I am focusing on how to make functional and aesthetically pleasing (or at least a bit more finished) things. My woodshop is a detached single car garage with tools from my grandfather as well as those that I've accumulated over time.
