    Just arrived

Hello, just found this site and looks like a great idea. I just sold my business about a year ago and am in the process of finishing my new shop. I will be building some tools soon and hope to be inspired by the good folks here.

Well, as this is my last shop I plan to build (I'm 65). I did a lot of things to make it my second home (at least that is what my wife says), so the building process has been rather slow. I bought 2500 board feet of rough sawn hard maple to put on the interior walls. Planed, straight edged, them and ran them though two routers to make a car siding joint and put it on the interior walls. That took me most of the winter. Since I have built oak cabinets, hard maple work benches, and a couple desks from hard maple. Built a cnc router room and installed the machine. Built a laser room and installed the laser. I'm in the planning process for building a number of homebuilt woodworking tools at the moment.

I'm working on a similar "second home" garage too. I joke with my wife that I'm going to put up a "No Girls Allowed" sign!

Those maple walls sound very nice. In mine, I think I'm going to keep the existing drywall, but put up a 4' wainscoting of galvanized corrugated roofing panels, trimmed out with rough cedar 2x4s.

    Hi Ron,

    Welcome!

Sounds as though you've built a great workshop. My garage is definitely my second home. Once my current project is completed, I'm planning to finish off the floor with RaceDeck.

When you're ready to share some of your own homemade tools, we'd love to see them. Please post them directly in the Homemade Tools subforum. We'll add each one to the database, as well as to your builder page on the site.

Non-tool items should be shared in the Not a Tool, but Homemade subforum.

    Ken
