    And to think a few years ago I threw out a dozen machines like this because I couldn’t sell them unless it was a complete sewing machine with motor and stand.

    To think I see these in thrift shops at least once a month and walk right on by them. As the photo show these old sewing machines where very well constructed. It is a shame there are not more conversion ideas for other uses.

    The only thing I don't like about this conversion is the cut on the upward stroke

    I have seen these blades available with reverse cutting teeth.

    That was my first thought. I must say that I have never seen the point in these types of saw. Anyway I have a small Burgess bandsaw and except for its inability to cut enclosed shapes it does everything that this does with longer blade life. For enclosed shapes I just use a manual jig saw which does not require blade removal to thread it through a starter hole.
