    Haha, I've actually seen this one done for larger bearings on our die cutter. They actually heated the linkage and packed the bearing in dry ice for a few hours. There was no "indexing" per se but they lined everything up and slammed them together really fast! One of the tech's doing it told me they lined one up wrong TWICE which took a extra day or so because they had to cut the bearing into pieces to get it out of the housing. Less than zero press fit!

    Just about every sleeve bearing on heavy equipment is installed with either dry ice or liquid nitrogen when repairs are done.
    one issue is when having to build up the bore then line boring back to size is to calculate the interference fit.
    new bearings out of the box have an oversize bore so the fir must be tight enough to compress them to the correct ID when installed.
    very large bores require a scary amount of undersize bores to the housings. So much in fact that it almost defies the thermal expansion tables, due to the types of materials used in the bearings.
