Being in the ceramic tile marble and granite installation business for about 50 years, I never had much luck with those style carbide drills, Now days diamond core bits are very inexpensive, I just bought a set of 15 for 13.27 from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Granted they will not last as long as more expensive drills (I have spent as much as $100.00 for a water cooled 1 1/2 bit).
I used them to drill some very hard porcelain and quartz on two bathroom jobs I did recently, and they did a decent job. I don't expect them to drill hundreds of holes but for price they do a good job.
A quick tip for the larger sizes of holes is to take the hole saw and drill into an old sponge, take out the plug of sponge and dip it into water then put it back into the hole saw, it will keep the cut covered with water.
