    Improvements to 4x6 Horizontal Band Saw

    I made a couple of improvements to my aging 4x6 import band saw. I got tired of cranking on the vise handle, and welded a 1/2" drive socket to the hub. I can still crank it, but my impact driver will open or close it in seconds.

    Second, I made a new vise out of angle iron, and installed a lead screw pirated from an old valve spring compressor. The lead screw can be adjusted to help clamp short stock that would not ordinarily be held securely in the vise.

    You really don't need anything fancy for that application. I used ordinary allthread for mine and it's been working fine for many years.
