Yes exactly if you are like me the whole world could go on lock down as long as a hardware store or a lumber yard managed to stay open.
For whatever reason my wife and I needed to drive to the next small town over which is about 45 miles away. I had planned on conducting our business there then drive to yet another town where there happens to be a lumber yard that I had called and found out they had the size and type of siding that we have on our house. We were going to select it then arrange for it to be delivered since I hadn't brought one of my trailers and the materials they had was in 16 ft lengths. Out of a whim my wife said lets check the small lumber yard here in this town and see what they have.
Since I already knew what the stuff was going to cost me in the next town I thought well it never hurts to check it out.
Long story long. the man showed me some 12inch wide siding in 12 ft lengths said it was $19.95 per piece.
Sorry but I can get it at this other store in 16 ft lengths for $13,95
Let me check he says I may be thinking of some other material.
I know this dodge from my days when I used to deal with used and new car salesmen.
He comes back and say I can sell them to you for $13.00
Yes but they are only 12 ft long and I will require several more pieces so it is still going to cost me quite a bit more than driving to the other town.
What would you consider a fair price then
So I told him $9.95 since they are 4 feet shorter for each 4 pieces I was going to have to by I would need an additional piece to make up the difference in length.
I can do $10.00 he said Then he let it slip that this material was not a regular stock item and happened to be an overage left over from an order.
Ok deal Lets load 22 pieces.
After leaving I tell the wife do you know what I just bought?
Yes some siding she said
Yes but not the siding I was going to buy, what I was going to drive to Stamford for was Masonite siding the same that is on the house that is weathered away after 50 years this stuff in the back of the truck is that John Hardy plank siding made with cement it is fire proof rot and mildew prof wind proof if installed correctly and almost Hail prof from the largest hail this stuff is 3 times as expensive as Masonite and I got it for almost what it would have costs us for the Masonite plus we didn't have to drive another 40 miles one way.
I added 3 more layers of tar paper to the layer that was already there. WHY? because I have rolls upon rolls of tar paper so why not.
I only did the wall up to the window even though it really needs to be done all the way up but I have another wall in bad shape I want to repair first
