Okay, I have several questions.
How long can you store the initial mixture before you add the hardener and still retain the fluidity of the mix? Do you need to mix it fresh for each job, or can you save some if you keep it in a jar with a tight lid?
What kinds of plastics are recommended for this process?
How stable is the plastic in the end, compared to the plastic before you chopped it up and made the mixture?
Is it better than melting down certain plastics and working with them in semi-liquid form at temperature?
I like this method, but I want to know more about it, so if there is somehwere I can read about it, I'd love a link.
Thank you!
Yes, it was a broken bucket. You can also use Plexiglass and polycarbonate, anything that can dissolve xylene. A thin layer dries in a few minutes, a thick layer from several hours to a day, depending on the temperature. ABS plastic and polyethylene, as well as PET, do not dissolve. Stored in a closed jar, without hardener, for more than three months , more has not yet been checked. After drying, it adheres well to hard surfaces, and takes its original appearance.

I've been using Acrylic plastic dissolved in Acetone for years to repair compatible objects. Switches, car dashboard parts, tool handles etc.
Xylene is on a restricted list here so not available to the public,(part of the communist lockdown and privations of todays world),but paint thinners containing Xylene are available. Very useful for thinning 'Shoe Goo' which gives a soft handle.
