My welding bench is on the small side at just over 1200mm square. I also have a permanently mounted Hossfeld Bender clone and a universal bar bender which takes up some real estate on the surface of the bench. Sometimes it is useful to have a general purpose metal vice on the bench to hold parts for grinding, to align parts for welding or just to carry out simple shaping operations. However, I don't want to add another obstruction to the surface of the bench. I designed a simple socket clamp which is capable of temporarily holding a vice, a small anvil and a hardie hole for mounting bending stakes. The entire unit is sub surface to the table and it's quick and easy to operate. It also allows the vice and other accessories to be quickly rotated into a more comfortable or accessible position.
