    "Iron-clad feather-feet pounding the dust
    An October's day, towards evening
Sweat embossed veins standing proud to the plough
Salt on a deep chest seasoning
Last of the line at an honest day's toil.........

"The Suffolk, the Clydesdale, the Percheron vie
With the Shire on his feathers floating
Hauling soft timber into the dusk
To bed on a warm straw coating."

    And my favorite, the ending:
"Thrill to the sound of all
    The heavy horses coming home"

A lad ehhh? When I was a lad, my friends joked I was born 50 years old.
all of them are great lines, but my favorite (partially due the corporate jab)
And one day when the oil barons have all dripped dry
And the nights are seen to draw colder…

Could ol' Ian be drinking same water as Shakespeare?

One of several underrated and fantastic wordsmiths for sure! Most "song writers" have such a base grip on language. I just want to vomit when someone tells me how awesome Nirvana's lyrics were or name some pop group and marvel at the way they rhyme every line! I learned that in third grade! Obviously people with substantially stunted exposure to real music or literature would be impressed by that.
