I've generally preferred the inertial type splitters using a flywheel for stored mechanical energy drive but since this one can be used in vertical mode (much easier on your back) it gets the Best in Class ribbon.

Very nice machine. I especially like the way you made sure the wedge would stop short of the platen by about 2 inches. The E stop button is excellent. Good safety feature. With enough force you can use more wedge angle and still obtain sufficient cleveage force. The other thing I like is it is instantly reversible so if you start to cut your fingers off, you may be able to reverse it to leave them attached to your hand by the skin and not have to pick them up off the ground! Grim thought, but I know a guy that that happened to. They call him Lefty now. But anyway, that is a very nice build.

This is a well made machine but our friends across the pond seem to always split straight grained, what looks to me like, at best, medium hard wood. I'm therefore inclined to query what is the ultimate tonnage that it can deliver. In Australia, if you're trying to split old dry Ironbark, don't even bother to load it onto a machine that delivers less than 45 tons.
I have a machine that's 20 tons and it just opens the head over pressure relief valve.
