I think you may be right. And a better/safer testing regimen.

Nah. Give them thirty for forty more years and a DARPA grant, and they'll get it dialed in just right...

if you will notice he was at least tethered. His problem was once he first lost control he kept over compensating Something that is not hard to do when you are being tossed around like a rag doll. try controlling an old Bell 47 as your very first time at the stick of a rotary wing aircraft. Every muscle in your body goes to lock up mode until you can force yourself to relax just a little. Anyone here remember the TV series Whirlybirds? well forget those 2 guys. I flew once with a retired CW3 in one of the old 47s He was a pilot's pilot Korean and Vietnam vet we were flying along and he said you want to try? I was like a statue afraid if I moved either of my feet of my hand chucks of granite would chip off if me. Chuck Martin I'm not. well maybe I am because neither he or PT More were actual pilots someone else did all of the actual flying when the scenes showed the helo in the air

I could never even fly a home-computer flight simulator. I did work on fighter jets for a short time, very early in my adult life. Heavier than air aircraft have one minor problem, IMHO. They do not stay up in the air on their own. And at least mine had wings! Yeah, I know, the rotor is the wing, but I could never really convince myself of that. All my time in helicopters was in UH-1's, as a passenger, after they decided they didn't want to pay me as crew for doing aerial photography. Got about 200 hours riding out to crash and accident sites in five years at Nellis. Though there is a bit of a rush standing in the copter shooting photos with my whole body parallel to the ground as the helicopter lays on its side.
