    Homemade drillpress

    Homemade drillpress-img_e3730.jpg

Hello this is my homemade drill press. i built it for cutting with hole saw.
Hole saw needs low RPM and high torque so this drill press are perfect for this.
The motor is a corded drill with 400Watts and 2000 RPM. The small gearbox are from a electric winch and the box gears are 1/15 so output are 100-150 RPM.

Nice low RPM drill press. Good power at low speeds.

Nice drill press. I know how hard it is to find drill presses with low spindle RPM's these days. Any thing cheap is apparently designed for wood working.

I got my 3 phase Rockwell drill press for $15 as scrap. I had to take it apart and clean and lube it and replace a keeper on the feed handle gear. I also bought an inverter to run it. It is rather large floor model gear head drill press.

Including the VFD, cross feed vise and keyless chuck I have less than $200 invested. It will push a 1" drill bit through a steel plate at ~90 RPM. The VFD along with the gear head makes it easy to get the speeds and torque you need.
