While I appreciate your efforts, the cost to someone without those "ingredients" is approximately $70.22 (Bunnings prices). The drying time for ALL samples is much too long compared to proper marking fluid. Denatured alcohol is just another term for methylated spirits. Methylated spirits is relatively slow drying and tends to be a little oily. Perhaps you should try isopropyl alcohol or acetone as the carrier for the colour?
I have a 1lt container of marking blue I have had it for many years and I do not recall the place of purchase. There is no label on the container, but it could be this item from McJings This is 1 lt of marking blue for $50 ready to go and QUICK drying, approximately 30-40 seconds (using my marking fluid as an example). No mess, no mixing and no fuss, ready to go.

Thanks peter for your input, i had some really dark stain given to me about 14 years ago but eventually ran out so i bought some dy-mark, not dark enough. The isopropyl alcohol idea is worth a try. Ive found that the the drying times of any stain vary greatly depending on temp & humidity of the day and the temp of the material being stained. Many people have tried making their own stain and i wanted to share the wood stain idea hoping to help someone, regards stevoh
