Hi All,
I am new around here, but glad to find a forum like this, to discuss common interests with like minded people. I am 55, and have had my own small general engineering machine shop since 1997. The funny thing is, I have always been so busy making stuff for other people, and never taking time to make things for myself, even though I have the equipment available, and what I make for my customers is always very industry specific things, not the sort of thing that would be of any use to a DIY enthusiast or handyman. Only recently, have I decided I would like to make some more generally useful type of items, and hence my interest in sites and forums like this. I have already been very impressed with the ingenuity I have seen here.
For the record, I live in Randburg, South Africa, not that geographic location is important in this context.

I can definitely empathize with being so busy making things for other people that one doesn't take the time for oneself. Glad you're taking steps to remedy that!

If you haven't already done so, take a look at our Machining category page. There's sure to be something there to pique your interest.

Once you've begun building homemade tools, we'd love to see them! Post your projects to the Homemade Tools subforum. We'll add each one to the database, as well as to your builder page on the site.

Any homemade, but non-tool items should be posted, naturally enough, to the Not a Tool, but Homemade subforum.
