Found out that I am a third generation machinist. I studied at the K.C.KS.C.C. till I was sidelined by an injury and other health issues. A friend of mine is trying to help me by financing my attempts to follow David Gingery's "Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From Scrap"
I've designed a custom foundry which I will post the plans' to this site and the Gingery Yahoo forums. I also plan to "tweak" Mr Gingery's other machines. The biggest change ,aside from a little up-sizing, is I plan to use the lost foam casting process.
I live in the Olathe Kansas area.
From old school tabletop RPGs' to newer LARPs' my interests are varied. I'm also into cosplay, steampunk, did 15 years at my local Renaissance Festival (8 years of working with and training a "Live Steel" combat show and the last 5 Squiring for a full contact jousting show) and classical fabrication projects. People tend to roll their eyes when I mention cosplay but even during the most recent economical hard times we nerds still managed to go to our various conventions. I guess you could say I have a lot of different irons' in a lot of different fires.
Still consider myself to be a student machinist. I hope that by the end of the machine shop equipment construction that I will earn the right to call myself a real Machinist.
I am looking forward to learning from the wisdom and intellect of the group and maybe being able to add to the collective knowledge someday.
