Well, it wants me to introduce myself so I suppose I had better.
My name is Tom and I like to tinker. Most of my life long fascination has been with mechanical objects but I don't limit it to just that.
What I do most is work in wood and metal. I am not a machinist by any stretch of the imagination but over the years I have developed more of an interest in such things.
I sort of started in woodworking because my mother of all people has a wood shop quite a few pros would be proud of. I learned and my mother got free labor. Dad worked in construction doing just about everything imaginable over the years from building houses to concrete bridges.
I got into automotive work growing up before I joined the Army and still have a love of cars.
I got into tinkering with firearms simply due to a fascination with mechanical things and a love of shooting.
Recently I have been getting more interested in smithing. My goal is to someday build my very own set of kitchen knives, starting at the forge, that are of sufficient quality where I would be unwilling to pay the price such items would cost.
I figure this fits right in with my personality. Dad always taught me to develop any practical skill that I could, that way even if I ran into a situation that I couldn't take care of myself I would at least have some idea of what the expert needs to do and know enough to make sure they aren't swindling me.
Well I think that is enough of an introduction.
