    Heavy equipment grading beam. I wonder if it's manually controlled, or if there is some sort of computer assist to get the grading perfect.

    I wold imagine that unless the excavator is more than 10 years old it mos likely does have an elevation control button in the joystick but i know a few older opperators who could almost do this with their eyes closed on a full manual machine.

    In 2002 I worked for a concrete contractor who had a dozer/grader with laser guided hydraulics on the blade. In this video, it appears to me that a laser head can be seen just right of center at the far perimeter (yellow box on a pole)... and if you look closely when the grader/hoe turns 90º to the left (@ 18 seconds), you can see the shadow of what looks to me to be a laser receiver on the unit.
