Far too pretty of a hammer to ever be in my ape hands. I used to have an engraver friend who had the patients to sit for hours days even months on end engraving rifles hand guns and knives . As fascinating as it was to watch him work it never took very long before my eyes would cross just trying to keep up with the intricacies of his work.

Totally agree Frank, could never use something that pretty. I too used to watch an old gunsmith friend of the family when I was in my 20's, engrave receivers and other parts. Tried it a few times back then but only small stuff. It's like doing Pen and Ink Drawings, you can't mess up and recover easily. My hands crimp up just thinking about it now...but love the skill and beauty of it!

The engraving and work are very nice and all, but you have to wonder about the end user of this. After all it is just a tool that will cop abuse if it is put to work. And if it isn't, then whats the point of hanging a newly made hammer on your wall for people to admire. I just dont get it

My guess is that it's a presentation article, perhaps a retirement gift or an award for some employment-related achievement.
