When grinding small (1/4" and under) lathe tool bits and boring bar bits my fixture
wants a little help. I like to have the clamp screws right on the side of the tool bit.
These little "L parallels" make that happen.
The parts are all made from aluminum. 1/2 by 1/2 and 3" long which gives me
a bit of stick out on the non cutting end. Two spare blanks were made for
any future bits that won't fit any of the ones already made. The L's were cut
to allow the bit at least .025" interference on the clamp jaw.
One is in the form of a V with a 120 degree angle. This one is for small round bits.
Note that the square bit shown in the fixture does not have the clamp screws tightened
while the round drill rod in the V block has been snugged up.
Now it is time to grind some bits!
Cheers, JR
