Hello, I´m a Veterinarian who enjoys DIY projects and hoping to learn a lot from you, lets start asking for advise
Hi kbalch, I love guns but due to the current situation in Mexico I better use airguns. I´ve been modifying some Mendoza, Benjamin and Sheridan airguns and currently checkering stocks (to ugly to show but improving), Although I was able to buy some checkering tools from eBay and Dembart, the idea of making my own tools has been around my head.
I have an old Atlas 618 (its older than me anyway) with some DIY tooling, a drill press but no mill (to heavy/expensive for me)
Any ideas on checkering tools?
By the way I´m a Veterinarian Pathologist, both activities (profession + hobby) = an enjoyable life
Unfortunately, I don't have any contributions on checkering tools. I've always been too intimidated to try it and have wound up buying all my grips.
This should give you some idea of the sort of tool you'll need to replicate: Checkering Tools
If you post a note in our Help Me Build subforum, someone may have a more specific suggestion for you.

Sorry my mistakes in english.
to share your tip >>> http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/tool-tips-tricks/ <<<
The V to your left is a guide, the serrated side (right) is the cutter, first line or cut is done as straight as you can with a single line cutter, then use the tool shown. When you finish all lines you start again with other set of lines crossing to form diamonds.
Yes, communicating in english is hard for us but adds to the fun and helps making new friends
